Based
in the mid-north of the North Island of New Zealand, Atacat Cattery has a
long and distinguished history of fine Burmese and Mandalay cats and kittens.
Since 1975 when Carol imported her first burmese Verncastelle Valda [ 1975-1995
] from Australia, she has been active as a cat breeder.
Many of her cats have achieved champion status with the very finest going
on to the top and being granted the status of double grand champion. Even
in the relatively small pool of cats that New Zealand can muster, this is
a fine achievement. Many breeders try for years without success to get the
one cat that goes all or part of the way to double grand.
We
have now ceased to breed these wonderful creatures and leave the Atacat banner
to be carried by trusted breeders with whom we have a close and consultative
relationship.
Please note that we do not export any of our cats under any circumstances.
Carol
first became a judge on the cat show circuit in 1979 gaining senior status.
After a break she completed the long and demanding course to requalify in
June of 1999.

Atacat now offers a highly attentive and specialised boarding service.
We built a roofed, fully wind and rain sheltered cattrun during the summer
of 1994-95 for the housing of queens that were mated with Rasputin and for
boarding the kittens\cats that we have bred . We brought it with us when we
moved and it has seldom been unoccupied by boarders.
We offer personal and hands on attention and care to cats [ and their owners
] at competitive rates.
Even in the very inclement weather, that we sometimes experience, we are able
to drop the canvas blinds making it watertight and windproof. During the days,
the blinds are up allowing the cats to enjoy the sun.
The back of the run faces the prevailing wind and has opaque Laserlite sheeting
right along it so providing excellent shelter with plenty of light.
It is fully drained and paved with bricks and has multi-level sleeping platforms,
cushions, bean bags, scratching posts, sleeping cages and in the winter or
during cold nights, our guests are provided with hot water bottles.
The
open-air aspect of it ensures that there is plenty of fresh air and no smell.
We
welcome inspections and enquiries.
